just wonderful! I have "simple" recipies from I think its NYTimes cooking that always have six ingredients that not only do I not have, but don't have a clue where to find them!! lol Murrell
The memories are coming flooding back now - boil in the bag fish in parsley sauce!? I hasten to add my mum did a lot of home cooking as well, but I don't blame her when it came to kids tea...
I had to go to my best friend's house for delicious Fray Bentos pies as my Mum wouldn't have entertained the concept of a pie in a tin! However, when I was a bit older, a tin of 'Chicken in White Sauce' (M&S) was deemed acceptable with peas, sweetcorn and rice - yum π
Love this (and Lil's gorgeous drawing). Did you eat a Fray Bentos pie as part of your research? I am very tempted to go and buy one now. Sending you a very easy and delicious recipe for that jar of tamarind paste.
You're a much better mother and cook than me Lizzie! I've resorted to sending the kids out for a meal deal at lunchtime and we now get a regular customer discount at the chippy round the corner! I resent having to think about their lunch - so relieved they'll be back to the school canteen buying beige food! I am sooo bored of thinking about feeding my ungrateful children who like different things so I often end up making 2 or 3 if not 4 different meals as husband and I often fancy different types of meal! However, we have been treating ourselves to nice 3-course restaurant takeaways once a week, just for us as wasted on the kids - send them off for a pizza! Can't wait for restaurants to reopen...

Anyone remember Findus Crispy Pancakes? One of my childhood favourites! Followed by butterscotch Angel Delight - 2 course beige dinner!
Oh this resonates with me!!!
